AI Cartoon Style Generator — See One Scene in 12 Cartoon Styles

An AI cartoon style generator shows you what a look does before you spend a render on it. Here one scene, a fox chef flipping a pancake that lands on the fox’s own head, was made 12 times with GenCartoon from the same words, changing only the style: 3D animated movie, flat 2D, anime, comic book, claymation, watercolor storybook, paper cut-out, kawaii chibi, retro Saturday-morning, toy-like 3D, 1930s rubber hose and crayon drawing.

Pick the one that fits your idea, read what it is good for and what to watch for, then type your own scene: the generator adds that style’s exact words and gives you a prompt to copy or to make. It is free and needs no account. Making the cartoon needs a free account, no card, and a free cartoon is included on many new accounts; on a plan a clip runs any length from 4 to 15 seconds, in 480p or HD 720p, without the watermark.

One scene in 12 cartoon styles

One scene, the same words each time, only the style changed. Tap a style to use it.

Real 4-second GenCartoon clips, shown muted and smaller than made. Same prompt each time: “A small fox chef in a white apron flips a pancake in a tiny cosy kitchen; the pancake spins into the air and lands flat on the fox's head.” plus the style words.

3D animated movie

Style words: 3D animated-movie style, soft rounded shapes, big expressive eyes, fluffy fur, warm cinematic lighting

Good for: Kids’ stories, animal heroes, mascots

Watch out: Detailed fur can tip it toward realism, as here. For rounder, simpler shapes, compare Toy-like 3D.

Light · optional

Prompt: A small fox chef in a white apron flips a pancake in a tiny cosy kitchen; the pancake spins into the air and lands flat on the fox's head. 3D animated-movie style, soft rounded shapes, big expressive eyes, fluffy fur, warm cinematic lighting.

Typed into GenCartoon, this exact prompt made the 3d animated movie clip above. Write your own scene to swap the fox for your idea.

Use this style on a photo: type “3D animated-movie style, soft rounded shapes, big expressive eyes” in the style box of Photo to Cartoon.

Tap a style, then write your own scene: one character and one action. The prompt keeps that style’s exact words; copy it or make it.

What the style generator gives you

  • Real renders, not mock-ups

Every clip is an untouched GenCartoon render from one prompt, only scaled down for the page.

  • The exact words behind each look

Each card shows the words that made it, so you can reuse a look that worked instead of guessing.

  • Honest watch-outs

Where a style drifted (realistic fur, a puppet instead of clay, a painted sign), the card says so and what to add.

  • Your scene in one tap

Type your own character and action; the prompt keeps the style words and the order the model reads best.

  • Works on photos too

Each card has a shorter, still-picture version of its words for the style box of Photo to Cartoon.

  • Free, no account

Compare styles and build prompts as often as you like; nothing is rendered until you choose to make it.

How to pick a cartoon style

Start from who will watch and what the clip has to do, not from the look you like best. A style sets expectations: soft 3D promises warmth, flat 2D promises a joke, anime promises a big feeling. The table matches common goals with the looks above that suit them.

If the cartoon is for…Try
Young children, bedtime and moral storiesWatercolor storybook or 3D animated movie: soft, warm, calm
A joke, a meme or a quick gagFlat 2D cartoon or 1930s rubber hose: clear shapes, snappy timing
Drama, a big reaction or an action beatAnime or comic book: strong lines, faces that go big
A product, a mascot or a playset worldToy-like 3D or claymation: things look solid and touchable
Cute pets and sticker-style ShortsKawaii chibi: big heads, small bodies, pastel colours
Folk tales, crafts and the classroomPaper cut-out or crayon drawing: handmade on purpose
Nostalgia and parodyRetro Saturday-morning: describe the era, never a real show

For 3D in particular, the 3D cartoon maker goes further: six 3D looks, textures such as fur, wool or clay, the light and the camera, with a note on why each choice works.

Style words reference

These are the exact words behind each example. Put them after your scene, as the generator does: the subject and the action first, the look second, so the main character is never lost under the style.

StyleWords to type
3D animated movie3D animated-movie style, soft rounded shapes, big expressive eyes, fluffy fur, warm cinematic lighting
Flat 2D cartoonflat 2D cartoon style, bold clean outlines, flat bright colours, simple shapes, snappy squash-and-stretch motion
Animeanime style, crisp line art, cel shading, large expressive eyes, vivid colours, dynamic camera angle
Comic bookcomic-book style, thick ink outlines, halftone dot shading, bold primary colours, dramatic shadows
Claymationclaymation stop-motion style, handmade plasticine figures with visible fingerprints, miniature handmade set, slightly choppy stop-motion movement
Watercolor storybookwatercolor storybook style, soft washes of colour, visible paper texture, gentle pencil outlines, pastel palette
Paper cut-outpaper cut-out animation style, layered coloured paper with visible cut edges, soft shadows between the layers
Kawaii chibikawaii chibi style, tiny round body, oversized head, sparkly eyes, rosy cheeks, pastel colours
Retro Saturday-morningretro Saturday-morning cartoon style, 1980s TV animation look, thick outlines, saturated colours, hand-painted backgrounds
Toy-like 3Dtoy-like 3D style, glossy plastic figures with rounded edges, bright candy colours, miniature playset, soft studio lighting
1930s rubber hose1930s rubber-hose cartoon style, black and white, bendy noodle limbs, pie-cut eyes, white gloves, film grain, bouncy motion
Crayon drawingchildren’s crayon drawing style, waxy crayon strokes, scribbled colouring, wobbly hand-drawn lines, white paper background

Words about movement, like “snappy squash-and-stretch motion” or “slightly choppy stop-motion movement”, only matter in a video. The rest work in a still picture too.

Photo styles vs video styles

The same words drive two different tools. In a video clip the model also has to move everything for a few seconds, so motion words count, and some looks behave differently once they move: in these examples the comic book’s halftone dots almost vanished and the watercolor clip framed the fox low in the shot. In a still picture nothing moves, so the look can be more detailed and the light more dramatic.

Photo to Cartoon redraws your own picture, a selfie, a pet or a family photo, as a cartoon image that keeps the likeness, and it takes any style you type. Each card in the generator has a shorter version of its words for that box, without the motion words: turn a photo into this style and the first one is free. It makes an image, not a video, and it does not animate the photo.

Your scene, your style

Signing up is free, no card, and a free cartoon is included on many new accounts. Plans make clips of 4 to 15 seconds in HD 720p without the watermark.

Frequently asked questions

What are the different cartoon styles?
Most cartoon styles fall into four families: 3D (animated-movie, toy-like, claymation), drawn 2D (flat 2D, anime, comic book, retro Saturday-morning, 1930s rubber hose), handmade and painted (watercolor storybook, paper cut-out, crayon drawing) and cute (kawaii chibi). The 12 examples on this page cover all four, each from the same scene.
Which cartoon style is most popular for AI videos?
A 3D look, by a wide margin. In October 2026 about half of the first cartoons made by people who came to GenCartoon from ChatGPT asked for a 3D look; flat 2D, anime and comic-book looks together were under one in ten.
How do I make a cartoon in a 3D animated-movie style?
Describe the scene first, then add the words: “3D animated-movie style, soft rounded shapes, big expressive eyes, warm cinematic lighting”. Add “fluffy fur” for an animal, but know that detailed fur can push the look toward realism, as in the fox example; “toy-like” or “glossy plastic” keep it rounder.
Can I copy a famous studio’s style?
Describe the look instead of naming the studio. Plain words such as soft rounded shapes, big eyes and warm light give you the look; a studio’s name adds nothing those words do not, and its characters belong to it, so use characters of your own.
Can I turn my photo into a cartoon style?
Yes. Photo to Cartoon redraws a photo as a cartoon image that keeps the likeness, in any style you type in its style box; every card above has the words to use. The first conversion is free. It makes an image, not a video.
Which style animates best in a short clip?
In these 12 clips, the styles with simple, solid shapes held together best: flat 2D, toy-like 3D and paper cut-out (kawaii chibi kept its cute proportions but came out as soft 3D). Detailed looks still work, but expect surprises: the comic book lost most of its halftone dots once it moved, and the watercolor clip framed the fox low. One character and one clear action help every style.
Can I mix two styles?
You can, as in “claymation characters in a watercolor storybook world”, but the model usually leans toward one of them. Pick one main look and borrow a single detail from the other, such as paper-cut-out clouds in a flat 2D scene.
