Bramble Comes Home (With Everything Else) Bramble Comes Home (With Everything Else) 14 01 Nora loved her rabbit Bramble more than raspberry jam, more than rainy puddles, more than her very best sparkly boots. 02 So when Bramble's hutch door swung open one Tuesday morning and showed nothing but empty straw, Nora sat down on the garden path and let out a wail that rattled the bird feeder. "BRAMBLE IS GONE!" she announced to the tulips, the postman, and next door's cat, who did not care. 03 Nora searched behind the compost bin. She searched under the wheelbarrow. She called "Bramble! BRAMBLE!" in seven different voices, including her Very Serious one and her Squeaky one. No rabbit. 04 That afternoon, there was a scratching at the garden gate. Nora ran and yanked it open. 05 There was Bramble - ears up, nose twitching, looking extremely pleased with himself. 06 But he was not alone. Trailing behind Bramble was a muddy shoelace. Tangled in the shoelace was a deflated birthday balloon. Tied to the balloon string was somebody's lost garden glove, and inside the glove sat a very small, very bewildered frog. 07 "BRAMBLE," Nora breathed. 08 Bramble hopped forward and dropped a half-eaten cheese cracker directly onto Nora's sparkly boot. A gift. 09 Nora stared at the shoelace. At the balloon. At the glove. At the frog, who blinked at her slowly. 10 Then Nora did something that surprised even herself. She burst into the biggest, snortiest laugh she had ever laughed in her entire life. 11 She laughed so hard she had to sit down on the path again. The frog blinked. Bramble groomed his ear as if everything was perfectly normal. 12 Nora scooped Bramble up and buried her nose in his warm, dusty fur. He smelled like adventure and someone else's biscuits. 13 "Where DID you go?" she whispered. 14 Bramble's nose twitched once, twice - and gave absolutely nothing away
